The Klein Days
During the Klein Days secondary school maths teachers meet with professors and university lecturers in mathematics at the world renowned Institut Mittag-Leffler in Djursholm outside Stockholm. What is unique about the Klein Days is the way in which it brings together the secondary school teachers’ teaching skills and the university mathematicians’ in-depth knowledge of the subject.
Direct impact in Swedish classrooms
The goal is to ensure that participants take their knowledge with them and spread it locally to their colleagues by creating lessons that have a direct impact in classrooms across the country. Many teachers are today offered far too few opportunities to deepen and expand their knowledge of their subjects. The Klein Days are a small but important pieces in the puzzle of how to solve this. The event is arranged jointly by the Institut Mittag-Leffler, the Swedish National Committee for Mathematics and ICMI-Sweden. The Klein Days are arranged three times a year for a total of 60 secondary school teachers.
Teachers have a difficult task that is important to the community and it is in the interest of everybody that they get the opportunity to study and develop their abilities further. When we looked for opportunities to support the important mathematics teachers in a concrete way, it came naturally to support The Klein Days when we understood how highly appreciated they had been by the teachers who had participated earlier.” Henrik Paulsson Brummer & Partners’ CEO
The Klein Days enable mathematics teachers to deepen their knowledge and improve their education for their own subject. During the continuing education, the high school teachers get to both take part in inspiring lectures and plan creative lessons that professors from the university help to develop.
Inspiration that creates motivation
Inspired math teachers create more fun lessons and elevate commitment to the subject. To strengthen mathematics, teachers are needed who show how exciting the subject is, who are good at explaining and can reason about problem solving. It will give results for students' motivation and grades.

What teachers who participated in the Klein days thought
It was the best training event that I have experienced so far! A lot of inspiration, meetings with motivated people and planning of lessons – what could be better?”
An absolutely fantastic experience! Being able to sit down and really delve into ideas and concepts for lessons with like-minded people is unfortunately not high on the agenda in our everyday school life. I will be recommending my colleagues to apply. This was the best training event I have had during my 12 years at secondary school.”
